Laois County Fire & Rescue Services held the first of eight family appreciation nights in Portarlington Fire Station on Friday 28th November. It was a heartwarming event to recognise the commitments made by the families of its dedicated firefighters.
The event welcomed the firefighters, spouses, children and staff from the Laois County Fire & Rescue Service. The evening was designed to express gratitude for the support that the families of our retained firefighters give, thus enabling them to serve their community every day.
A highlight of the evening was a presentation of Chief Fire Officer’s Commendation Certificates to FF Eryk Jakubowski and FF Hubert Siler in recognition of their professional conduct and effective performance at an apartment fire in Portarlington on the 20th of February 2025, where, while wearing breathing apparatus, rescued a person from a third floor apartment. Their direct actions resulted in the saving of a life.
“Our team members are able to respond to emergencies at any hour because they know their families are supporting them every step of the way” said Declan Power, Chief Fire Officer. “This night is a small token of our immense appreciation for the resilience and understanding demonstrated by our families, they are a key enabler for the delivery of this service”.
It is intended to host an evening for the 8 stations that serve Laois and surrounding areas 24/7 and 365 days a year.
