The Fire Safety and Engineering Seminars hosted by the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management (NDFEM) took place last week at the Sheraton Athlone Hotel, bringing together fire service personnel and subject matter experts from across Ireland to discuss emerging fire safety challenges, regulatory developments, and best practice in fire engineering and enforcement.
The programme featured a wide range of presentations covering key topics affecting the fire sector, including building control regulations, enforcement case studies, construction product regulations, fire risk management, and incident learning. Delegates also heard from experts on a number of contemporary issues, including battery energy storage systems (BESS), lithium-ion battery fire risks, and fire safety considerations in waste management facilities.
Presentations were delivered by representatives from local authority fire services, government bodies, the Environmental Protection Agency, academia, industry and other specialist organisations. The seminars provided an important opportunity for knowledge sharing, professional development and discussion of current and emerging fire safety issues.
