Carlow County Fire & Rescue Service attend the Tullow Agricultural Show

Yesterday, Sunday 17th August 2025, Carlow County Fire & Rescue Service attended the Tullow Agricultural Show setting up a stand and demonstrations to promote Community Fire Safety.  Firefighters from Tullow carried out Chip Pan fire demonstrations and provided fire safety advice to all who visited their stand.  They also received a visit from Tánaiste Simon Harris, Catherin Callaghan TD and Cllr. Ben Ward.

A/CFO Ben Woodhouse:

‘I am pleased to support our attendance at the Tullow Agricultural Show which can attract many visitors and provide our firefighters with an opportunity to engage with the public and provide fire safety advice.  As the 2024 fire statistics have been published by the NDFEM it is evident community fire safety initiatives such as this is important for educating the public regarding home fire safety.  Fires in the domestic settings are still attributable to heating and cooking appliances amongst other factors such as electrical wiring and appliances and smoking materials.  To demonstrate the Chip Pan fire unit was relevant and brought gatherings to our stand to educate the public further regarding smoke alarm ownership and maintenance along with other fire safety advice such as having an escape plan, turning off electrical appliances not designed to stay on, keeping escape routes clear, disposing of smoking materials, closing doors at night and having a phone to call the emergency services.’
